LIBYAN STAMPS ... 30 YEARS AGO

1 February 1984 "GADDAFI: The Great Man - River Builder"
The Great Man-Made River (GMR) is a network of pipes that supplies water to Libya, from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System fossil water. It is the world's largest irrigation project (source: Guinness World Records 2008 Book). The total cost of the project is estimated at more than US$ 25 billion. Many postal issues of Libya were dedicated to this important project: stamps, minisheets, souvenir-sheets and postal-stationery. The first stamp was issued in December 1983 (showing year "1984"); the last one in August 2010 (one of the forty self-adhesive stamps in the large sheet "AlFateh Revolution Through 40 Years").
