APHRODITE FROM CYRENE in LIBYA STAMPS

Statue in marble, Roman copy (1st century BC) of a lost Hellenistic original statue in bronze by Praxiteles, famous Greek sculptor (4th century BC). The statue was discovered in Cyrene in 1913 during the Italian rule in Libya and transported to Rome/Italy. LIBYAN STAMPS ... 30 YEARS AGO

1 February 1984 "GADDAFI: The Great Man - River Builder"
The Great Man-Made River (GMR) is a network of pipes that supplies water to Libya, from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System fossil water. It is the world's largest irrigation project (source: Guinness World Records 2008 Book). The total cost of the project is estimated at more than US$ 25 billion. More information in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Man-Made_River
Many postal issues of Libya were dedicated to this important project: stamps, minisheets, souvenir-sheets and postal-stationery. The first stamp was issued in December 1983 (showing year "1984"); the last one in August 2010 (one of the forty self-adhesive stamps in the large sheet "AlFateh Revolution Through 40 Years").
